Buying Blank Cartridge Shells and PCBs: Check the Interfaces First
Blank shells and cartridge boards are components, not a finished game release. Define the interfaces and work still required so that the parts can be assembled into the product you intend.

Specify the shell
Identify the exact platform and format, intended board, connector opening, fixing method, colour and label recess. Use a drawing or physical reference where fit is important. Similar-looking shell families are not automatically interchangeable.
Specify the board
- Board revision, outline and component clearance.
- Memory, save and other title-specific requirements.
- Connector geometry and agreed surface finish.
- Whether the supply is bare PCB, assembled board or programmed assembly.
- Files, engineering, test and verification work included.
Voltage compatibility needs the circuit and actual component data sheets. A supply voltage or connector colour alone is not enough to judge the complete interface.
Review a matched sample
Fit the intended board into the intended shell, inspect fastening and connector access, and check the agreed functions on named hardware. Keep the sample's revision references so that the bulk components match the approved combination.
Confirm which checks the supplier performs and which your own team must complete after programming or assembly. An unprogrammed board cannot establish the behaviour of your final game file.
Confirm component quantities and handling
Shell-only and PCB-only orders have project-specific quantities and schedules. The 50-unit starting point for complete cartridge projects should not be assumed to apply to every component. Ask about variants, packing, handling requirements and repeat availability for the selected parts.
Send the files that resolve fit
Include the platform, quantities, board drawing or reference, shell reference, current files and the work you want included. If game programming is requested, confirm that the files are owned or licensed for that use. Start with the PCB and programming service or the relevant platform supply page.

Prepare a PCB enquiryWhat to include in your first message
Share what you know. Note anything that still needs a review; project files are not required for the initial enquiry.
- Platform, target hardware and board reference
- Design files available and engineering still required
- Memory, save, programming and electrical requirements
- Shell fit, connector finish and acceptance checks
- Quantity, delivery country and target date
